Losing a Friend

Trigger warning: suicide theme

This past week, a friend of mine took her own life. It has left me feeling sad and empty. This poem is for her and for any of you who have lost someone. Remember to keep reaching out to your friends who’ve gone quiet.

Our Tiny Lives

We are just figments

Of other people’s imaginations

Like filaments of gossamer

Weaving patterns across each other

Crossing and touching

For one brief moment

We remember only flashes

Like picture postcards

We can only visualize

Small parts of old friends

Their hands or

The back of their neck

How the hairline grazed the collar

The sound of their laugh

Strange fragments which

Together form a lifetime

A web of experiences

Soon to return

To the great collective
