Traveling Post-Covid

As we gradually ease out of travel restrictions here in Canada, we are all anxiously awaiting for the Canada-US border to reopen, the question of how to show proof of vaccination is in the front of our minds. Some countries are way ahead of us in providing documentation. The European Union, Israel and China have already created a vaccination passport. In the U.S. a proof of vaccination card has been issued. In Canada, the government is still working out a plan. It could be a bar code on your phone, a certificate or card, or a stamp in your passport. Canadians are anxiously awaiting this decision.

Once this is determined, we will need to always check online with any country we wish to enter to see what their own regulations are. Many countries in the world are way behind North America in vaccination delivery to its population and some are in a state of crisis, as we were through the winter. We will need to consider whether we want to enter a country where getting hospital care may be difficult. Also, travel medical insurance companies are offering different amounts of coverage based on whether or not you are fully vaccinated, so read the fine print when you purchase a policy.

I have a child living in the U.S. so I am hoping to fly down there in the fall and she is hoping to fly home for the first time in two years at Christmas. I am pleased that the quarantine requirements are easing up now so she won’t have to go to a hotel for five days or be stuck in the house the whole time she’s here. It looks like she won’t have to come through Bellingham and get a car to the border to get home, like some have been doing to bypass the airport restrictions.

So I am starting to think about traveling again. My husband and I would like to visit his favorite aunt in Nova Scotia and drive down to Boston or possibly fly to New Orleans. Where would you like to go if you had the opportunity?
